The
1,800 plus members of the Waccamaw-Siouan Tribe (also called Waccamawe,
Waccamau, Waccomassee, Wacemaus, Waggamaw, Wicomaw, Wigomaware) are located
in the southeastern counties of Bladen and Columbus. The Waccamaw-Siouan
call themselves the "People of the Fallen Star," which recalls
an old legend telling how a ball of fire falling to earth created Lake Waccamaw. |
