Haliwa-Saponi Indians live in Halifax and Warren Counties of North Carolina, the majority residing in a community known as the Meadows, established in the late 1700s. Records indicate that the Haliwa-Saponi are descended from the Saponi, Tuscarora and Nansemond Peoples. However, the Haliwa-Saponi Indian Tribe bears no relation, kinship or history with the Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation. |
